Licorice Root Herb - Adrenal Fatigue
Compounds derived from licorice root have been shown to help fight adrenal fatigue, inflammation, viruses, ulcers and even cancer, according to researchers.
Licorice Root helps to reduce the amount of hydrocortisone broken down by the liver, thereby reducing the workload of the adrenal glands. Licorice was prescribed for Addison's disease until the 1930s.
It is an anti-stress herb known to increase energy, endurance and vitality. It can naturally fortify cortisone levels - the most important hormone in stress and adrenal fatigue.
The most common medical use for Licorice Root is for treating upper respiratory ailments including coughs, hoarseness, sore throat and bronchitis.

Research focused on AIDS have shown that Licorice is effective in fighting HIV disease in a number of ways. Licorice's multiple functions as a medicine include fighting infections (viruses and bacteria), acting as an antioxidant and therefore a potent anti-inflammatory and a strong detoxifying agent.
With HIV itself, Licorice appears to do four things: 1) slows HIV reproduction in infected white blood cells (monocytes, macrophages and other cell populations), 2) interferes with cell-to-cell and 3) virus-to-cell infection, and 4) severely limits the clumping (syncytia) of HIV-infected white blood cells (Tochikura, 1989). As an anti-viral and anti-bacterial, Licorice attacks fat-coated microorganisms like HIV, and other fat-coated AIDS cofactors such as tuberculosis, cytomegalovirus, herpes, hepatitis, and various parasites. In PWHIV, Licorice increases T-cells, and improves the T helper/T suppressor ratio, both important markers in HIV disease status (Mori, 1989).
All Licorice is not equal. Herbs are rated in classes ranging from A to D. The ratings are primarily for potency.
