  Diabetes Diet and Supplements

Pre-diabetes, also called impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG), is a condition in which your blood glucose (blood sugar) levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. Having pre-diabetes puts you at higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

The Pre-Diabetes Diet Food Pyramid is designed to increase your dietary fiber and normalize your metabolism and blood sugar. Drink a glass of red wine per day. Drink orange juice, apple juice, grape juice, ice tea or water. Avoid colas, soft drinks or energy drinks with sugar, high fructose corn syrup or crystalline fructose. Cut back on your salt consumption. Your diet motto: Eat to Live not Live to Eat.

If you have pre-diabetes, you are also at increased risk for developing heart disease.
You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if

  • you are overweight

  • you are 45 years old or older

  • you have a parent, brother, or sister with diabetes

  • your family background is African American, American Indian, Asian American, Hispanic American/Latino, or Pacific Islander

  • you have had gestational diabetes or gave birth to at least one baby weighing more than 9 pounds

  • your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher, or you have been told that you have high blood pressure

  • your HDL cholesterol is 35 or lower, or your triglyceride level is 250 or higher

  • you are fairly inactive, or you exercise fewer than three times a week

Those with pre-diabetes are likely to develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years, unless they take steps to prevent or delay diabetes. Weight loss and regular exercise can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Diet

Nutrition experts at Harvard created the Diabetes Diet Pyramid to fix fundamental flaws in the government food pyramid. Daily exercise and weight control strongly influence your chances of staying healthy.

  • Red Meat, Margarine and Butter (Use Sparingly): These sit at the top of the Pyramid because they contain lots of saturated fat. If you eat red meat every day, switching to fish or chicken several times a week can improve cholesterol levels. So can switching from margarine to olive oil.

  • White Rice, White Bread, Potatoes, White Pasta, Soda, and Sweets (Use Sparingly): Why are these all-American staples at the top, rather than the bottom, of the Diabetes Diet Pyramid? They can cause fast and furious increases in blood sugar that can lead to weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic disorders. Whole-grain carbohydrates cause slower, steadier increases in blood sugar that don't overwhelm the body's ability to handle this much needed but potentially dangerous nutrient.

  • Nuts and Legumes – Beans (1 to 3 times). Nuts and legumes are excellent sources of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Legumes include black beans, navy beans, split pea, garbanzos, and other beans that are usually sold dried. People who consume about one ounce of peanuts, nuts and peanut butter per day improve blood lipid levels and decrease risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • Fish, Poultry, and Eggs (0 to 2 times). These are important sources of protein. Research indicates that eating fish can reduce the risk of heart disease. Chicken and turkey are also good sources of protein and can be low in saturated fat. Eggs, which have long been demonized because they contain fairly high levels of cholesterol, aren't as bad as they're cracked up to be. In fact, an egg is a much better breakfast than a doughnut cooked in an oil rich in trans fats or a bagel made from refined flour.

  • Vegetables (in abundance) and Fruits (2 to 3 times). A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can decrease your chances of the dreaded metabolic syndrome, cancer, diverticulitis and age-related and diabetic blindness.

  • Plant Oils. Good sources of healthy unsaturated fats include olive, canola, flax, as well as fatty fish such as salmon. These healthy fats not only improve cholesterol levels (when eaten in place of highly processed carbohydrates) but can also protect the heart.

  • Whole Grain Foods (at most meals). The body needs carbohydrates mainly for energy. The best sources of carbohydrates are whole grains such as oatmeal, whole-wheat bread, and brown rice. They deliver the outer (bran) and inner (germ) layers along with energy-rich starch. The body can't digest whole grains as quickly as it can highly processed carbohydrates such as white flour. This keeps blood sugar and insulin levels from rising, then falling, too quickly. Better control of blood sugar and insulin can keep hunger at bay and help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Remedies

Sugar Metabolizer/High Blood Sugar

Sugar Metabolizer/High Blood Sugar Homeopathic spray is indicated to help delay and/or prevent Type 2 Diabetes to be taken in addition to the Diabetes Diet and regular exercise.

Your body gets energy by making glucose from foods like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, milk and fruit. To use this glucose, your body needs insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood. Type 2 diabetes is a disease in which your pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or your body does not properly use the insulin it makes.

If you have type 2 diabetes, glucose builds up in your blood instead of being used for energy.

Diabetes Ayurvedic Medicine Formula

Lower blood sugar levels with diabetes type 2 treatment and prevention for pancreas health. Ayurvedic diabetes herbs with Gymnema Syvestre and six other herbs from India are featured.

Failure to lower blood sugar (glucose) levels can lead to complications from diabetes including toe and foot amputations, blindness, kidney failure, strokes, heart attacks and nerve damage.

Pancreas Health consists of all-natural ingredients from India that are essential in making it safe and effective. Side effects may include weight loss, lower cholesterol levels and reduction in sugar cravings.

Stop Sugar Cravings

Gymnema sylvestre helps to decrease cravings for sugar. Gymnema leaf extracts contain gymnemic acids, which are known to inhibit hyperglycemia and diminish excessive blood sugar. Gymnema extract and gymnemic acids inhibit the intestinal absorption of glucose.

In one study, 21 of the 22 patients were able to reduce their intake of hypoglycemic drugs; 5 of these discontinued hypoglycemic drugs entirely and maintained their blood glucose homoeostasis with Gymnema extract alone. (Baskaran K et al. J Ethnopharmacol 1990; 30: 295)

Gymnemic acid has a regenerative effect on pancreatic beta cells and stimulates the production of insulin. Cholesterol is also reduced. Gymnema sylvestre has been used as a diabetes treatment in India for over 2000 years.

Fenugreek seeds (Trigonella Foneum Graceum) exert hypoglycemic effects by stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, as well as by inhibiting the activities of alpha-amylase and sucrase, two intestinal enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism.

Fenugreek can improve peripheral glucose utilization, which contributes to an improvement in glucose tolerance. Thus, fenugreek may exert its hypoglycemic effect by acting at the insulin receptor as well at the gastro-intestinal level.

Lower Blood Sugar Levels

Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia) Ancient Indian herbalists studied the shape and sizes of different parts of herbs for those resembling different human organs, in the belief that it corresponded to the treatment of diseases related to that particular organ. In Ayurveda, it is mentioned that Bitter Melon fruit resembles the pancreas and is an excellent remedy for diabetes, a disease of the pancreas.

The Philippines Health Department sponsors Operation Diabetes to help diabetics lower their blood sugar levels. They recommend Bitter Melon tea (Ampalaya) after every meal.

Metabolic and hypoglycemic effects of bitter melon extracts have been demonstrated in cell culture, animal, and human studies. Bitter Melon normalizes blood glucose level, reduces LDL ‘bad cholesterol’ levels and increases HDL ‘good cholesterol’ levels. At least three different groups of constituents found in Bitter Melon have clinically demonstrated hypoglycemic properties to lower blood sugar.

Approximately 100 in vito studies have demonstrated the blood glucose-lowering effect of Bitter Melon. The fruit has the ability to enhance cells' uptake of glucose, to promote insulin release, and potentiate the effect of insulin.

Herbal Diabetes Formula

Salacia reticulta (Kotala himbutu) is native to Sri Lanka and India. The roots and stems of S. reticulata are used there for prevention or remedy of diabetes. Similarly, the extract from S. reticulata is consumed as a dietary supplement in Japan that prevents obesity and diabetes because it suppresses hyperglycemia.

There is a considerable amount of research that has been done regarding its hypoglycemic activity (ability to reduce blood glucose level) and this has been proven using animal models as well as by clinical trials on humans.

A group of Japanese scientists have investigated and isolated two active ingredients that acts as a glucoside inhibitor in humans. They have named these ingredients as Salacinol and Kothalinol.

Salacia reticulta has potent starch-blocking activity. One study by the Kyoto Pharmaceutical University demonstrated that daily consumption of a hot water extract of Salacia reticulata suppressed body weight by 14%.

Tinospora Cordifolia is an herb that is often taken in combination with other herbs to enhance the particular effect of one herb with the help of the other. Clinically, it is used in compound formulations for treatment of jaundice, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.

Triphala is a combination of the pulp of three famous fruits or herbs — amla (emblica officinalis), harad (terminalia chebula) and baheda (terminalia bellirica). Triphala cleanses and detoxifies at the deepest organic levels and helps the body to eliminate excess fat, by improving metabolism.

Triphala is the most trusted tonic in India and has profound healing benefits and its role in preventive medicine cannot be minimized. It is useful whenever there are symptoms of inflammation, infection, obesity and other conditions of excess, including diabetes. Long-term use of triphala is excellent for improving energy in Type I diabetics and reducing long-term complications for diabetics.

Pterocarpus Marsupium or Kino tree has a long history of use in India and Sri Lanka as a treatment for diabetes. Pterocarpus marsupium lowers blood glucose levels and shows cell protective and regenerative properties. These effects have been reproduced in numerous animal and human research. Pterocarpus marsupium regenerates functional pancreatic beta cells and is also reported to have insulin-like activity.

Pancreas Health Ingredients

Proprietary Blend of Gymnema Sylvestre Extract, Trigonella Foneum Gracecum Extract, Momordica Charantia Extract, Salacia Reticulata Extract, Tinosporia Cordifolia Extract, Triphala Extract and Pterocarpus Marsupium Extract.

How do I use Pancreas Health?

Dosage: Take one Pancreas Health capsule three times a day with meals.

How long does one bottle last?

Depending on dosage, one bottle of Pancreas Health should last for 4 weeks.

Ayurvedic therapy addresses diet modification, eliminating sugar, high fructose corn syrup and simple carbohydrates, and emphasizes eating more complex carbohydrates. Protein is limited, since excessive intake can damage the kidneys. Fat is also limited because there is often a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes, making fat digestion problematic. A cleansing program is recommended for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes.
