L-Phenylalanine, an essential amino acid, is a precursor to the amino acid tyrosine and to a whole series of neurotransmitters (including epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine) and the thyroid hormones. L-phenylalanine (LPA) serves as a building block for the various proteins that are produced in the body.
