Nip and Tuck in India
Nip and Tuck in India - Cosmetic Plastic Surgery at huge savings with medical tourism.
Cosmetic plastic surgery is not for everybody. There are many drawbacks to this type of surgery. Some of the concerns are psychological with issues concerning self-esteem. Other issues are about the safety of the procedures, especially about breast augmentation.
Silicone breast implants have been the focus of much scrutiny. Recent studies have shown that women with silicone gel-filled breast implants do not have a greatly increased risk of some autoimmune diseases such as lupus.
In November of 2006, the FDA approved silicone gel implants. The new silicone breast implants have 3 layers of shell surrounding the silicone gel. This reduces the amount of gel bleed, however it does make the implants somewhat firmer.
This brings us to another issue…. the cost of the nip and tuck procedure in the US. The cost of having gel implants varies from $6,000 to $8,000. The cost of having breast augmentation in India varies from $1,800 to $4,000. The price varies because some women want the procedure performed in an accredited hospital by board certified plastic surgeons.
At any rate, the cost of having a “boob job” is much more affordable in India. It is possible to find a round trip flight to India for $1,000. Since it is a 24-hour-flight from the US to India, it often requires you to get the surgery done on your vacation. This means that if you plan your trip wisely, you can stop at Hong Kong for a shopping trip, visit the beaches of Thailand or see the Taj Mahal either before or after your nip and tuck operation. The whole concept of getting surgery while traveling overseas is called medical tourism.
To get the most value for your money, consider getting more than one procedure at the same time. This could include liposuction, a tummy tuck, a face lift, LASIK eye surgery or dental work. The savings could easily be between 40 to 80%.
Among educated Indians, English is often their primary language. If you count both India and Pakistan, the Indian subcontinent is ranked number 3 in the world in terms of numbers of English speakers after the US and the UK. For many who speak more than one language, English is their second language. This is one of the reasons why there are so many Indian physicians in the US, such as Sanjay Gupta of CNN.
Due to the high cost of medical care in the US, it is not surprising that medical tourism in India is growing by 30% a year. India’s greatest resource is her people, as demonstrated by her growing dominance in the IT industry, software development and outsourcing in the call center industry.
Traveling abroad is not just for elective surgery, either. How many Americans who are uninsured or under-insured (and are not on Medicare yet) can afford to pay $60,000 for a hip replacement or $450,000 for a liver transplant? In India the hip replacement costs $15,000, all costs included, and the liver transplant costs $40,000.
