Chromium Picolinate Supplements for Weight Loss and Diabetes![]() Most Americans do not get adequate amounts of chromium in their diets. Chromium levels decrease with age. Low chromium levels contribute to diabetes. Chromium supplements help to control appetite and help with weight loss. IS CHROMIUM IMPORTANT? Reduce sugar cravings! Control your appetite! We've known for years that trace minerals like iron and zinc are essential to good health. But one of the most important minerals is chromium. Chromium helps insulin metabolize fat, turn protein into muscle and converts sugar into energy. In fact, chromium-activated insulin increases the amount of blood sugar available for energy production nearly twenty-fold. Chromium is of great help for weight loss also. HOW CHROMIUM HELPS CONTROL BLOOD SUGAR Some people consider chromium the "master" nutrient for controlling blood sugar, because insulin is dependent upon biologically active chromium, A lack of chromium can cause low blood sugar and may be a factor in some cases of adult-onset diabetes and heart disease. There is also evidence to suggest that in some people chromium may play a role in lowering blood pressure, regulating appetite, reducing sugar cravings and promoting lean body mass. CHOLESTEROL Chromium has been shown to reduce levels of harmful LDL cholesterol, a form of cholesterol that has been linked to heart disease. RAISE HDL 'GOOD' CHOLESTEROL Chromium in a daily dose of 400-800 mcg “sensitizes” your body to its own insulin and can raise HDL a few points. A randomized controlled trial at King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, in 2000, 44 adults were given 200mg of chromium or a placebo was given in a double blind cross over study during 8 weeks resulted in decreasing triglycerides while increasing the mean high-density lipoprotein (HDL) significantly. Another study conducted at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Israel, published in Metabolism in July 1992 reported that 76 patients who had heart disease were treated with 250 mcg of chromium increased their HDL level. In a 1991 study, 63 men at University of North Carolina suffering from hypertension and taking beta-blockers were studied. Chromium supplements increased HDL cholesterol levels by an average of nearly 6 points, a 16 percent increase. No side effects were observed. WHO NEEDS CHROMIUM? U.S. Government studies show that 9 out of 10 Americans do not get enough Chromium in their diet and that chromium deficiency may be a widespread problem. Chromium levels decrease gradually with age, while strenuous exercise, pregnancy, diabetes and stress can all cause the body to use up its chromium stores even faster. Science is revealing that increases in chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD), traditionally regarded as normal consequences of aging, may actually be linked, in part, to poor diets – and are highly correlated with a deficiency of the essential nutrient chromium. Chromium is known to enhance the body’s insulin activity for carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism, and to control glucose levels. Decreased chromium levels have been linked with poor insulin function – associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, CVD and atypical depression. A scientific review of “Chromium & Aging” was presented at the “Second International Congress on Nutrition and Aging,” July 2003, and indicated that insulin function is central to many biological factors that contribute to disease. It was suggested that some of the diseases viewed solely as a natural result of the aging process are, in fact, affected by insulin function and chromium intake. While aging has a negative effect on disease risk factors for CVD and type 2 diabetes, chromium has been shown to have positive effects on the same factors. The preventive potential of chromium has been realized in some research – supplementation increased lifespan in rats by 33% –but further study is needed. Chromium supplementation can be a safe, effective way to help ensure optimal intake. A number of clinical studies have shown that daily supplementation, especially in the form of chromium picolinate, can enhance insulin function. Chromium supplementation helps in reducing the risk of early onset of coronary heart disease by reducing the associated coronary risk complications.” In addition, an analysis of the relationship of chromium and heart disease in over 30,000 men by Dr. Eric B. Rimm of the Harvard School of Public Health suggests that chromium status is strongly associated with the risk of coronary heart disease, especially among overweight men. Chromium picolinate supplement has been shown to help maintain normal insulin levels, reduce elevated blood glucose levels, reduce coronary risk factors and reverse insulin resistance, which are all significant factors in people with obesity and diabetes. WHAT IF I ALREADY TAKE A CHROMIUM SUPPLEMENT? You may not be getting the chromium you thought you were. Chromium chloride, for example, does not activate insulin and is absorbed less than 2% by the body. 69-0 Chromium Picolinate 200mcg 90 capsules $11.95 ![]() We have organized Femhealth products into the following categories: Adaptogens, Anti-Aging, Aromatherapy Blends, Brain Boosters, Chinese Formulas, Cleansing, Eucalyptus Oil, For Women, Green Food, Herbal Formulas, Natural Medicine, Liquid Extracts, Magnetic Jewelry, Minerals, Pain Relief, Sexual Health, Single Herbs, Skin Care, Sports Nutrition, Vitamins, and Weight Loss.
